Finally! A place where you can make voting choices based on information instead of ads.
On this website, candidates in several races had two opportunities to reach voters - at no cost.
Details On How It Works
In May, volunteers from the Fourth Ward Cleaver magazine staff sent out forum invitations to candidates in the following races:
|
- MS State House of Representatives - District 122
- Hancock County Supervisors
- Justice Court Judge Place 2 - Race decided in Primary
- Chancery Clerk - Race decided in Primary
You can read the invitation they received here.
The twenty-eight letters were hand-addressed and sent in Priority Mail envelopes so they would in no way resemble junk mail. The addresses used were supplied by the Hancock County Circuit Clerk's office (with the exception of the State 122 race). Through Priority Mail tracking, the post office confirmed that all were delivered to those addresses.
Our volunteers followed up with at least one phone call to the candidates (to the number listed on the candidate information sheet given to us by the county). If the candidate could not be reached, a voice mail was left, offering to answer any questions they might have about the forum.
Fourteen of the candidates responded and participated in Part One.
The participating candidates' bios and photos were posted on this site. Participating candidates were sent a list of questions during the third week of June. Ten of the fourteen candidates participated in Part Two of the forum and answered questions, which were also posted on this site.
The site was updated after the August primary to reflect only elections that will be decided in November.

Why these races?
Some Hancock County offices this year weren't contested, like Tax Assessor, Sheriff, and Justice Court Judge Places 1 & 3. This first year of the forum, our volunteers didn't have enough time to give full attention to Constable, Coroner and Superintendent races.
Part Two: Questions
Members of the public had until May 20th to send us questions they'd like to see presented to forum candidates.
Questions from those submitted were selected by our volunteers to present to each participating Forum candidate in June. Unedited answers received from candidates before deadline were posted on this site. After the primary, the site was updated to reflect only elections that will be decided in November.
